I recently worked on a project in which I had to format cells to limit the number of characters a user could type in them. Heres an example of what I did. On my screen, where it says State, well need to limit the number of characters users can type to only 2. First, well highlight the cells that we want to limit the characters for. Then, in the Data tab, select Data Validation. Data Validation again. Under Allow, select Text Length. And please note, that this label can be a bit misleading because it can be used to restrict more than just text.
