This happened to me as well but I found a fix. Go to measure, right-click, go to preferences, un-check Use scale and Units from Document (when present). For some reason my file has another scale embedded in it somewhere that was conflicting the measuring tool for distance and area. Hope this helps!

How to resize a PDF online: To start, drop your PDF file or upload it from your device or your cloud storage service. Select the size of your document in the drop-down menu. If you choose custom size, you need to enter the dimensions for height and width, in inches or millimeters. Click on the Resize button.
Open the PDF document that you would like to edit. On the right-hand side of Acrobat, click Edit PDF. Located on the center of the top edit toolbar, click Header and Footer. If a Header or Footer exists, click Update otherwise click Add. When finished with the Header or Footer, click OK to save the changes.
