Biennial Updates Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires all entities under its jurisdiction to update their information every two years.
Once weve filled out the application for your USDOT Number and MC Number, it takes a minimum of 21 days for your authority to become active. During that time, we can help you: Get proper insurance. Complete all drug and alcohol requirements.
Routine USDOT Number Updates Updates can be done online via the FMCSA online registration system with your US DOT PIN, or by filing an MCS-150 form.
Biennial updates are processed immediately if done online, but updates filed by email, fax or mail may take three to four weeks to process.
If you see the status as Not Authorized, this means your Operating Authority (MC/FF#) is not active and you are not authorized to operate as for hire in interstate commerce. Once your Operating Authority becomes active, the status will change to Authorized in our systems.
While an application for FMCSA operating authority is typically granted within 25 business days, the process may be extended if the application requires additional review.
Normally, operating authority documents are sent out within 3-4 business days after number has been granted.
Once the application is completed, FMCSA suggests making a copy for the companys files. Mailed applications, on average, take four to six weeks processing time.
