The file command in Linux is a handy tool that helps you identify the type of a file. Its like a detective that uncovers the nature of a file without you needing to open it.
RETURN VALUE FDISSET() a non-zero value if the bit for the file descriptor fd is set in the file descriptor set pointed to by fdset, and 0 otherwise. On successful completion, select() returns the total number of bits set in the bit masks. Otherwise, -1 is returned, and errno is set to indicate the error.
PS1 is the primary prompt which is displayed before each command, thus it is the one most people customize. PS2 is the secondary prompt displayed when a command needs more input (e.g. a multi-line command). PS3 is not very commonly used.
We should use the select command to create a simple menu in the terminal. Then, the command displays a list of options preceded by numbers. select repeatedly reads a number from standard input. Subsequently, if the number corresponds to a strings position in WORDS, the command sets NAME to the respective text.
However, select() allows users to implement synchronous I/O multiplexing. With this process, Linux programs monitor multiple file descriptors ready for I/O operations at once. Multiplexing is synchronous because users have to wait until at least one file descriptor is ready.
Open File in Linux Open the file using cat command. Open the file using less command. Open the file using more command. Open the file using nl command. Open the file using gnome-open command. Open the file using head command. Open the file using tail command.
Shell Scripting getopts options When arguments are passed on the command line, getopts parse those arguments instead of command lines. Options are written starting with a hyphen (-), followed by the letter. For example, -a, -b, -c, -d, etc. Look at the above snapshot, we have created three options -a, -b and-c.
