One of the colleagues needed to insert an electronic signature into a PDF document. They wanted a professional look rather than printing, signing, scanning, and reinserting. The workaround was to open the signature files in Word in the correct order (JPEG, GIF, Ping) and then insert them into the PDF document from there, avoiding Acrobat opening it as a separate file each time.
