The ls command in Linux is used to list the contents of directories. The PWD command shows the current directory while LS lists the contents color-coded by file type. Blue is for folders, white for files, and yellow for pipes. LS -L provides a long format showing file type, owner, group, and creation date. Hidden files can be shown with LS -a or LS -al. Special files like Dot and Dot dot are also displayed.
