To combine first and last names in Excel, use the CONCATENATE and LEFT functions. Start by typing "=CONCATENATE" to bring in contents from two separate cells. Use LEFT to extract the first initial from the first name column by inputting "1." Add a dot and space by putting a comma after the first part. This will result in the first name initial, a dot, a space, and the last name in the same cell.
