Online identity verification is done by checking ID documents, using biometrics authentication, or looking at a users digital footprint. The key is to combine as many sources as possible to be sure you are dealing with the right person without adding too many verification steps in the customer journey (friction).
Use Form SS-4 to apply for an employer identification number (EIN). An EIN is a 9-digit number (for example, 12-3456789) assigned to employers, sole proprietors, corporations, partnerships, estates, trusts, certain individuals, and other entities for tax filing and reporting purposes.
If you dont have a copy of Form SS-4, or have not yet applied for an EIN, you can now use the IRS online application tool to submit your Form SS-4 and obtain it.
You are required to answer several questions in order to complete the SS-4 application. The IRS releases minimal information to the public and takes seriously the privacy and confidentiality of personal and business tax-related information, including business identification information.
You can get the IRS Form SS-4 on the IRS website. The form is only one page long. Expect to provide information like: Your businesss legal name and address.
This verification form can be used to verify the identity of an individual while they upload their important documents. With this form, you can also collect contact information and all the other necessary information.
