Below are some common questions from our customers that may provide you with the answer you're looking for. If you can't find an answer to your question, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.
Enter the footnote text. In the body of the document click insertion point where duplicate footnote reference is to appear. Type duplicate number or, on the Insert tab, click Symbol and select symbol previously selected.
You cannot insert a citation into a text box because it is not part of the main body of the text.
Repeated footnote references. In a change from past practice, numbered footnote indicators are no longer repeated in resolutions. When a reference must be repeated, a new footnote with the identical text should be inserted.
Footnotes should be numbered consecutively in the order they appear throughout your paper. Each note should have a unique number; dont use the same number again even if you cite the same source repeatedly. Footnote numbers are usually placed at the end of the relevant clause or sentence.
Although in-text citations are fairly common in legal memos and factums, footnotes are the preferred method of citation used at law school. There are two types of footnotes: Citation Footnotes: directly support the authors argument and point the reader to the source which is being quoted or referred to.
Footnotes should be placed on the same page as their accompanying text. Footnote numbers are placed in superscript, usually at the end of the sentence. If you are referring to a word, place the footnote number directly after the word.
Where do we put the superscript footnote numberbefore or after the punctuation mark? The MLA Formatting and Style Guide, the APA Formatting and Style Guide, and the Chicago Manual of Style all place the footnote after the punctuation mark (comma, period, colon, semicolon).
Footnote or endnote numbers in the text should follow punctuation, and preferably be placed at the end of a sentence. When citing the source for a quotation, the number should be placed at the end of the quotation and not after the authors name if that appears first in the text.
To do this, first select the text that you wish to mark as a citation within your table of authorities. Then click the Mark Citation button in the Table of Authorities button group on the References tab within the Ribbon. The keyboard shortcut for this dialog box is Alt+Shift+I on your keyboard.
