Laser engraving relies on vector files, a special type of image file that tells the laser engraving machine how to engrave your design. Vector files contain shapes and lines that are drawn mathematically by special software.
To engrave on wood, you start with a wooden surface where you will inscribe the design. Then stamp or draw the design pattern on the surface using ink or pencil. Finally, you use the tools to etch the design. This process is the same for both chisel and rotary tools.
Engraved or incised work where the design is sunk into the surface is called intaglio, and is the opposite of cameo, where the design is in relief. Intaglio designs are made on gemstones, glass, ceramics, stone, or similar material.
Traditionally, engraved designs are carved into metal or wooden surfaces with sharp tools, but the visual style of engraving is also replicated in design and illustrative work. Ornate floral elements, detailed patterns, and intricate linework are common features that make engravings such a fascinating art style.
Examples of contemporary uses for engraving include creating text on jewellery, such as pendants or on the inside of engagement- and wedding rings to include text such as the name of the partner, or adding a winner's name to a sports trophy. Another application of modern engraving is found in the printing industry.
What are the Types of Engraving? CNC Engraving. Rotary Engraving. Diamond Drag Engraving.
Fill the engraving with paint! I used BreakThrough paint with a small brush (Q-tip also works well). BreakThrough is thick and quick to dry. I think any kind of acrylic paint would work.
Today there are two main types of engraving methods used in the R&I industry-rotary and laser engraving.
