To create calculated fields in Access queries, open the query in Design View. In the first blank column in the QBE grid, enter a name for the new calculated field followed by a colon and space. Then, type the expression or formula to be evaluated. The calculated field is derived by performing a function on values from other fields or entered by hand. It only appears during the query and is not stored in the tables. Calculated fields can use any available query field or manually entered data for calculations.
