To save (or write to) a file that youve made edits to, use the :w command. To quit Vi, use the :q command. To save and quit all at once, combine both commands into :wq. *NOTE: You can add an exclamation point ! to any command to force it.
To save a file without exiting in Vim: Switch to command mode by pressing the Esc key. Type : (colon). This will open the prompt bar in the bottom left corner of the window. Type w after the colon and hit Enter. This will save in Vim the changes made to the file, without exiting.
Save command Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+S. Go to File Save on the Menu bar. Click the Save icon on the Standard toolbar.
