Hi everyone, this is Anne with Graphic Design How To, and today Im going to tell you how to convert a JPEG or a PNG file to a vector image using Image Trace in docHub Illustrator. Alright, lets get started. OK, here we are in Illustrator, and Im just going to go to Create New, Im going to come over here to the Print presets and choose Letter. It doesnt really matter what you choose. You can always change it later. So well come down here and hit Create. And now Im going to place the files that well work with today. So well go to FilePlace. Im going to grab all five of my images that Ill be working with today and place them. Now Im going to click and drag to place them in my file. I found all these images online just through Google search. And I will say that most Google Search images are protected, so you cannot use them in your own work, but its totally fine to practice with them. Heres how to easily convert a raster image into a vector image using the Image Trace tool in docHub Illustrator: With the image open in docHub Illustrator, select Window Image Trace. With the image selected, check the Preview box. Select the Mode drop down menu, and choose the mode that best suits your design.
For that I use Illustrator, and this is how. Step 1 - Place a Raster Image. Step 2 - Select the Image. Step 3 - Live Trace the Image. Step 4 - Adjust the Trace Settings. Step 5 - Expand the Paths. Step 6 - Add Some Text. Step 7 - Break Text into Paths. Step 8 - Create a Compound Path.
To convert a JPG file into a vector using docHub Illustrator, follow these simple steps: Open docHub Illustrator. Insert the JPG image you want to convert. Select a tracing workspace. Select the JPG. Adjust the color complexity. Adjust the pixels. Change settings to adjust the edges. View your changes.
Select the source image and open the Image Trace panel via Window Image Trace. Alternatively you can select a preset from the Control panel (by selecting from the small menu to the right of the Trace button) or the Properties panel (by clicking the Image trace button and then selecting from the menu).
To do that, go to the Image Trace panel, click Mode, and select Black and White from the preset drop-down menu. Then click Trace in the bottom right corner of the Image Trace window. And Done! We have converted the photo into a black-and-white vector image.
Open the file inside Illustrator. Then, using File, select Export then select the desired format. Then select Save. Remember that this option allows for editing of the image inside Illustrator as well.
Make The Image A Vector To do this you need to go to Object, then down to Image Trace and click on Make and expand. A window will pop up so click ok. Now youre finished and you will have a vector image of your drawing which you can manipulate like any other vector in illustrator.
