Note: Unlike Word document pages, PowerPoint slides dont have margins that you can adjust to change the slide layout. Your slide stretches from edge to edge. When you print the slides, printer limitations can result in a white edge around the slides. However, you can change the margins inside Text Boxes and Shapes.
Adjust the text box margins Click the outer edge of the text box to select it. On the Shape Format tab, click Format Pane. Click the Shape Options tab if it isnt already selected. Click the text box icon. , and then click Text Box. You can adjust the left, right, top, and bottom margins.
On the Table Layout tab, in the Alignment group, click the Cell Margins dropdown list, and choose one of the following options: Normal, None, Narrow, Wide, Click Custom Margins In the Cell Text Layout dialog box, in the Internal margin section, type or select values you prefer:
To add or change a soft edge, point to Soft Edges, and then click the size of the soft edge that you want. To customize the soft edges, click Soft Edges Options, and then adjust the options that you want. To add or change an edge, point to Bevel, and then click the bevel that you want.
Your slide margins should not be too narrow if you want your slides to look professional. The rule of thumb is 1/20 of the slide width when the aspect ratio is 16:9. The more white space you will have on your slide, the more professional it will look. Especially the most important point on your slide should stand out.
On the PowerPoint menu, click Preferences View (under Authoring and Proofing Tools). Then, in the View box, select the Show vertical ruler box.
Fit text automatically Click anywhere in the text. On the Format menu, point to AutoFit Text, and do one of the following: To reduce the point size of text until there is no text in overflow, click Shrink Text On Overflow. To shrink or expand text to fit in the text box when you resize the box, click Best Fit.
