Annotate a diagram by using callouts Select the shape you want to add a callout to. On the Insert tab, in the Diagram Parts group, click Callout. Hold your mouse pointer over a callout to see a preview on the page, and click the one you want. On the page, click the callout and type your text.
To format data labels in Excel, choose the set of data labels to format. To do this, click the Format tab within the Chart Tools contextual tab in the Ribbon. Then select the data labels to format from the Chart Elements drop-down in the Current Selection button group.
Procedure Select the discovery that you want to work with. Right-click a data point in the visualization or in the legend. To display only the selected data points, click Keep. To hide the selected data points, click Exclude.
In the worksheet, click the cell that contains the title or data label text that you want to change. Edit the existing contents, or type the new text or value, and then press ENTER.

Chart callouts are visual tools that help in emphasizing a specific series or data point on a chart, through a line or arrow from the point to be highlighted to a box with information text.
Select just the single point you want a label on: click once to select the series, then click again to select one point. Now when you use the right-click menu or the plus sign icon to add data labels, it will add a label only on the one point youve selected.
