hey everybody this is dean and welcome to photoblue today i thought id talk about photography file formats um kind of the pros and cons of some of them what each one is used for and its good to know this information just because it gives you a better idea of how to create your own workflow or how best to use the formats in various uh workflows that you might use so lets start out with jpegs jpegs are the oldest uh or one of the oldest formats used for photography uh jpegs were designed for photography they are lossy format lossy format means that it compresses it but it loses information so you have a choice in jpegs whether to have a really high quality and low compression or really low lower quality in in in more compression and so the file size gets smaller the more lossy it is and it gets bigger the the higher the quality is so thats something to keep in mind with this format they can be used for many applications including the web instagram and for creating prints they are uni
