when you create a table of contents with OpenOffice writer it is a static table so you cannot click on any heading and then navigate directly to other document so you have to do it manually so lets first of all is start by creating the table of contents so you can see here Ive done a heading 1 heading 2 here you see its heading 3 I have applied the Styles Ill go to the end of the document I will press control enter or I can go insert manual break page break its the same thing you dont have to do that but I prefer are having table of contents on a separate page and then Im going to insert the table of contents Im gonna arm leave the same at the same title etc okay okay okay so you can see here Ive got my table of contents and if I click or I press ctrl + left click I cant go back to the heading 1 or this heading 3 etc so what am I supposed to do you can right click edit index table you can do that when you create your table so you dont have to create it and then edit it so yo

In the dialog Insert Index/Table in the Entries tab, put the cursor in the blank area before the E# entry and click on the Hyperlink button. Now put the cursor in the blank area after the # and again click on the Hyperlink button. Now when you create the Table Of Contents it should be hyperlinked.
To remove a Heading n style from the TOC hierarchy, open ToolsChapter Numbering, Numbering tab. Set Paragraph style: to [None] or the style you want at this level.
Select Insert ▸ Table of Contents and Index ▸ Table of Contents, Index or Bibliography from the menu. In the Table of Contents, Index or Bibliography dialog, select the type Table of Contents. Now click OK. The table of contents with the formatted Headings now appears where you placed the cursor.
Right click and choose Edit Index. There are many things you can change, broken into several tabs. The Entries tab lets you change the indent and pattern of each level of heading will look like in the table of contents (indent, heading number, heading text, tab placement)
Updating a table of contents Right-click anywhere in the TOC. From the pop-up menu, choose Update Index/Table. Writer updates the table of contents to reflect the changes in the document.
If you want to change the look and other settings of the TOC you need to edit it. To edit a TOC: Right-click anywhere inside the TOC. Select the Edit Table of Contents command from the context menu.
How to get the table of contents to show up in the table of contents Manually insert your TOC title as a Heading 1 paragraph. Type your document as usual (with the needed page breaks, etc.). Go back to the empty paragraph and Insert TOC Index TOC, Index or Bibliography .
Click in the space to the left the leftmost box to place the cursor there and then click the Hyperlink button. A new box labeled LS will appear. Then click on the space to the right of the E and again click the Hyperlink button.
