Hi, Im Eric Minick with IBM Cloud. I want to tell you a little bit about continuous integration today. This is a development practice that just about everybody thinks theyre doing, but its widely misunderstood. So, I want to start by talking about the bad old days before we had it, what problem were trying to solve, and what this does for us and what its really about. So, lets start with our old school approach where weve got a couple of developers, theyre probably on a team of 30 or 50, we got Alice and Bob and theyre working on their own features, and theyre going to keep separate on their own features for a long time. Theyre writing some bits of new code here. Maybe theyre deleting a line of code here or there, what have you. And their plan is that theyre going to get their features to work against the code base, then in a couple of weeks, or months, later theyre going to integrate their work together. The release management lifecycle consists of five steps, which include planning, building, testing, preparing, and deploying a software update. Each stage is important for properly organizing and executing a successful release.
The purpose of the Deployment Management practice is to move new or changed hardware, software, documentation, processes or any other components to environments. Deploying change involves moving or installing the change to a given environment.
The key phases to release and deployment management Phase 1: Release and deployment planning. Phase 2: Release building and testing. Phase 3: Deployment. Phase 4: Reviewing and closing a deployment.
Release management focuses on when and how to make new or updated component available to users. And Deployment management is the technical vehicle that looks at how to move new or changed service components from one environment to another.

5 Steps to a successful release management process Plan release. The planning stage may be the most time intensive as this is where your entire release is structured from start to finish. Build release. User acceptance testing. Prepare release. Deploy release.
Release and Deployment Management includes the assembly and implementation of new or changed services, from release planning through to early life support transition for operational use. It includes, physical and virtual assets, applications and software, training and communication.
Integration and release management allow you to produce software artifacts and release those configuration items that perform a function for end users. I refer to the process of building the software and providing a final product to the end user as technical releasing.
