The Adopt-A-Highway program, which began in 1989, has been one of the truly successful government-public partnerships of our time. A total of 176,000 participants have cleaned and enhanced more than 140,000 shoulder miles of roadside and saved taxpayers $265 million ($19 million annually).
The purpose of the Adopt a Highway Program is to keep our roads clean and our environment healthy, as well as providing businesses with a unique cause marketing opportunity.
Is there a fee involved? There is no fee required to participate in the program. TDOT provides volunteers with all necessary supplies and safety materials.

The AAH Program is a voluntary program and is solely administered by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). Participation is free for all volunteers and standard recognition panels (signs) are included at no charge.
