A SAR is a request made by an individual to an organization to obtain a copy of their personal data, understand how it is being processed, and learn why it is being processed.
The right of access, commonly referred to as subject access, gives individuals the right to obtain a copy of their personal data, as well as other supplementary information. It helps individuals to understand how and why you are using their data, and check you are doing it lawfully.
SAR request is a data subject asking for a copy of the controllers data about the subject. A data subject can exercise this right via phone or in writing. When a data controller receives a SAR request, they must do a verification and fulfill it in time, resolve any disclosure conflicts, and reply securely.
You should also note that individuals do not have to tell you their reason for making the request or what they intend to do with the information. However, it may help you to find the relevant information if they do explain the purpose of the request.
Manifestly unfounded requests having no clear intention of exercising your right of access (eg if you make a request but then offer to withdraw it in return for some form of benefit from the organisation); or. if you are using your request to harass an organisation or cause disruption.
