The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) was established by the Legislature in 1959 to set minimum selection and training standards for California law enforcement.
It includes a minimum of 664 hours of POST-developed training and testing in 42 separate areas of instruction called Learning Domains. Most POST-certified basic training academies exceed the 664 hour minimum by 200 or more hours with some academies presenting over 1000 hours of training and testing.
The Post will serve as the California counterpart to the New York Post, and will be owned by News Corp. The California Post plans to begin publishing in early 2026, with Australian journalist Nick Papps serving as editor-in-chief.
A POST Profile is a computer database record that provides the history of an individuals California law enforcement employment, POST professional certificates, and POST-certified training.
