The Cooperative Admissions Examination Program (COOP) and the High School Placement Test (HSPT) are two of the most common tests required for admission to many Catholic High Schools. The COOP consists of 10 units testing students in mathematics, reading and comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and spelling.
The HSPT covers a range of subjects, so youll need to brush up on your academic skills in order to do well on the test. Practice your math skills, read widely to build your vocabulary, and practice your grammar and writing skills. Consider working with a tutor or taking a test prep course if you need extra help.
The HSPT is widely recognized as a very challenging exam, requiring dedicated study and preparation for success. Unlike other standardized tests where students may rely on being strong in one subject area, such as math or language, the HSPT demands a well-rounded understanding across all sections.
High School Placement Test (HSPT) scores are reported as percentiles. 88th to 99th percentiles are considered high; 41st to 59th percentiles are average; and 1st to 11rd percentiles are low. The 50th percentile is regarded as a precisely average HSPT score. Therefore a good HSPT score would generally be above 75.
There are 298 multiple-choice questions in total, and the test is timed at 2.5 hours. The questions are grouped into five subtests: two Cognitive Skills subtests and three Basic Skills subtests.
