The truancy process begins after 5 unexcused absences in Chesapeake Public Schools. Loss of Credit is mandated through the Virginia Department of Education and requires students to miss no more than 9 absences in a one semester class or 18 absences in a full year class regardless of excuse status.
After 5 unexcused absences, you will be contacted by a school counselor to create an attendance plan. A letter and the attendance plan will be sent home. After 7 unexcused absences, another letter is sent home and you will be contacted by an administrator to schedule a conference.
Excused Absences: Personal illness A WRITTEN NOTE from parent/guardian must be presented to the homeroom teacher immediately upon return to school. The note should be returned within four days of the absence. Phone calls for absences will not be accepted in place of a written note.
