Texas Titles A title printed in the sellers name is required to transfer ownership of a previously owned vessel/boat and/or outboard motor previously titled in Texas.
The boat title transfer process in Texas involves completing an Application for Texas Certificate of Title (Form 130-U), submitting a bill of sale, and presenting the signed current title from the seller. This ensures legal ownership and compliance with Texas Parks and Wildlife regulations.
The purchaser must obtain the signed title along with a bill of sale and should complete the rest of the application and sign. Do NOT purchase a used boat or motor without obtaining a signed title and a bill of sale from the titled seller or their legal representative (obtain copy of authorizing document).
Complete a registration form, either online, through the mail, or in person. Provide proof of ownership as needed, such as a bill of sale. You may need to present this to your states Department of Motor Vehicles. Pay the registration fee, which will vary by state and by the size of your boat.
Separate certificates of title are required for vessels and for outboard motors. Effective January 1, 1994, all motorboats and all outboard motors must be titled.

Texas does not require a bill of sale except for bonded titles. The seller will need to provide you the original title for the car, signed as appropriate front and back. There will need to be no lienholders shown anywhere on the title, such as a bank, car note lender, etc.
