Disability Plates have a renewal registration fee of $101. Renewals can be completed online, by mail or by visiting an Illinois Secretary of State Office. For your convenience Illinois renewals can be completed online at License Plate Renewals on the Secretary of State Website.
Fees. Permanent and Disabled Veterans placards are free and valid for five years. Temporary placards are free and valid for six months. Disabled plates and Veterans plates cost $11 and need to be renewed when you are renewing your vehicle registration.
If you are applying for a temporary disability parking placard (good for up to six months depending on your diagnosis), you may visit a Secretary of State facility and be issued a red, temporary disability parking placard.
In order to obtain a placard, Form MV-145A (PDF), Persons with Disability Parking Placard Application must be completed by the person with a disability, a health care provider, or a police officer and returned to PennDOT. Permanent placards are valid for five years and renewed in March or September.
