The Maryland Form 502UP is used by individuals who have underpaid their estimated income tax for the taxable year.
You may submit paper tax forms and payments at any of the local branch offices between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you are sending a Form 502 or Form 505 (with a payment) through the US Postal Service, send it to: Comptroller of Maryland, Payment Processing, PO Box 8888, Annapolis, MD 21401-8888.
EXCEPTIONS THAT AVOID THE UNDERPAYMENT PENALTY The tax liability on gross income after deducting Maryland withholding is $500 or less; or, C. Each current year payment, made quarterly as required, is equal to or more than one-fourth of 110% of last years taxes.
The IRS will not charge you an underpayment penalty if: You pay at least 90% of the tax you owe for the current year, or 100% of the tax you owed for the previous tax year, or. You owe less than $1,000 in tax after subtracting withholdings and credits.
