You may also have one during a checkup, if you are admitted to the hospital, before you have surgery, or if you are pregnant. It can also monitor some medical conditions and treatments.
A test is used to assess bladder or kidney infections, diabetes, dehydration, and Preeclampsia by screening for high levels of sugars, proteins, ketones, and bacteria. High levels of sugars may suggest Gestational Diabetes, which may develop around the 20th week of pregnancy.
Normal Range for Routine Test pH: 4.5 to 8.0. Protein: Less than 20 mg/dL. Glucose: Negative or trace. Red Blood Cells: 0-5 cells per high power field (HPF)
