Senior Citizen Exemption for Persons Age 65 and Over There is an additional $50,000 homestead exemption (FLORIDA STATUTE 196.075) for person 65 and older. This $50,000 applies to non-school taxes.
Florida does not impose personal income, inheritance, gift taxes, or intangible personal property taxes. Additionally, there are no state taxes on Social Security benefits, pensions, IRAs, 401(k)s, and other retirement-based income (not including businesses).
To Apply: Go to the Chief County Assessment Office Smart E-Filing Portal at assessor.lakecountyil.gov. Log in to your account, create a new account, or log in as a guest. Click Available Filings EX01: Homestead Exemption Application (First time applications only) Click Begin Filing and follow the instructions.
