You must have an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (converted to a 4.0 scale), with GPAs of 3.2 or higher preferred. GPAs in Master level courses or degrees can be included for GPA considerations.
English Proficiency The Graduate School at UMBC accepts TOEFL, DuoLingo (most programs), IELTS, and Pearson PTEA. The Graduate School has a minimum TOEFL score of 80, but certain academic programs may require a higher score. MyBest scores and single date test scores for the TOEFL are both acceptable.
UD has revised its minimum TOEFL requirement to 79. Students scoring in the 79-89 range are admitted to the University of Delaware and invited to begin their undergraduate studies in the Accelerate-U Delaware (A-UD) program.
The language requirement consists of completion of a foreign language through the 201 level or demonstrated proficiency at that level.
The Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement (CIERA) states that ELLs should learn to read initially in their first language. If this is not possible, students need to see and hear literally hundreds of books over a school year in order for fluency to be modeled to them.
