Does Florida require standardized testing for homeschoolers? While Florida does require annual evaluations, they do not need to take the form of standardized testing.
Florida law requires the evaluator to check for evidence of educational progress commensurate with ability. This means that the portfolio is not compared with public school requirements for a particular grade level. Instead, the childs work from the end of the year is compared with that of the beginning of the year.
Focus on accomplishments and areas of achievement, but also mention areas that may need additional improvement. The evaluator should state that it is his professional determination, not his opinion, that the child is achieving an adequate educational growth and progress. Each letter should be individualized.
Florida does not have many requirements in terms of parent credentials for homeschooling. There is no minimum education level or criminal record bans. Florida also does not have vaccination requirements for homeschoolers or a list of required subjects that students must cover.
Unless you hire a certified tutor to homeschool your child (option 3 above), you dont need to worry about Florida homeschooling hour or day requirements. There are none! You dont have to keep attendance records or log a certain number of days or hours of instruction.

The home-education law provides five evaluation options: An individual evaluation by a Florida-certified teacher of your choice. Any nationally normed student achievement test administered by a certified teacher of your choice. A state student assessment test. A psychological evaluation.
Parents may contact the local district home education office or a state or local parent group to obtain the names of available evaluators. All evaluators for home education students must have current certification in academic subjects at the elementary or secondary level in the state of Florida.
The new law essentially allows any K12 student to take the state portion allotted for them roughly $8,000 annually and redirect it toward private school tuition.
