The Drumcondra Test of Early Literacy is a screening and a diagnostic test suitable for use with pupils at the end of Senior Infants and the beginning of First Class who are experiencing some difficulty in learning to read.
The Drumcondra Tests are a set of curriculum-based standardised assessments of achievement for both primary and post-primary pupils in Ireland. Tests are for English, Maths, Irish (primary only) and Apptitude Test (post-primary).
Drumcondra (Irish: Droim Conrach, meaning Conras Ridge) is a residential area and inner suburb on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland.
This year, your child will take the New Drumcondra Primary Tests in Mathematics and/or English Reading, and the school will share the results with you. This note is to help you to interpret the results. You may see differences between your childs results on the new tests and their results on older tests.
Objective items include multiple-choice, true-false, matching and completion, while subjective items include short-answer essay, extended-response essay, problem solving and performance test items. For some instructional purposes one or the other item types may prove more efficient and appropriate.
