The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) established the Accreditation Program in June 1988. The objective of this program is to provide a mechanism to formally recognize the competency of a testing laboratory to perform specific tests on construction materials.
To become AASHTO accredited, your laboratory will need to participate in both the Laboratory Assessment Program (LAP) and the Proficiency Sample Program (PSP). There are individual fees associated with both of these programs.
In most cases, a laboratory will need to undergo a full audit before accreditation status can be granted. The audit should take one to two days and will cover all aspects of the laboratorys operation, including quality, testing and personnel. A mock-up of every relevant test must also be observed by the auditor(s).
The faculty, administrators, and/or staff of the educational institution or academic program requesting accreditation must prepare a self-assessment report explaining and/or demonstrating compliance with the accreditation standards of the Quality Accreditation Commission.
If you would like to be a member, please email the Chair of the group for which you would like to join as well as the AASHTO Liaison. Friends of the technical subcommittees may join as members of industry and academia. Please limit membership to one individual per company or academic institution.
