Excise is collected at the point where fuel leaves a designated storage depot, with the excise paid by the manufacturer or importer and remitted to the Australian Taxation Office, mostly on a weekly basis. As at 29 September 2022, the excise is charged at a rate of 46 cents per litre (CPL).
