Introduction: Exodus is the the story of Gods deliverance of Israel from their slavery in Egypt following Josephs death and the calling of Moses to confront Pharaoh, then Israels deepening relationship with Yahweh centered in the Law of the Covenant and Gods presence in His Tabernacle.
The Lord miraculously allowed the children of Israel to pass through the Red Sea on dry ground to escape, while the army of Pharaoh was drowned. The people of Israel sang songs of praise and thanks to the Lord. Acting ing to inspiration, Moses healed the waters of Marah.
Horeb, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a burning bush. From that bush, God called on him to deliver the Israelites from the oppression of Pharaoh. Moses was hesitant, but the Lord gave him powerful signs: the ability to turn his staff into a snake, to make his hand appear leprous, and to turn water into blood.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: but lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
Why do you cry out to me? Tell the people to move forward (Exodus 14:15). God had heard enough crying out (Exodus 2:23, 14:10). God did not want the people to stand still and watch, as Moses had said. Instead the people were to move forward into an uncertain future!

But Pharaoh changes his mind and gives chase until he corners the fugitives at the Red Sea, whereupon Moses, at Gods command, causes the waters to part so that the Israelites can pass safely across. When Pharaoh and his troops try to follow, the water returns and they are all drowned.
God will do it all. Through Moses, God splits the sea to open up a path for the Israelites to walk through safely on dry ground. However, when Pharaoh, motivated by his hard heart, follows follows after them, God closes the waters around them and destroys him and his whole company.
