The income threshold for eligibility for the homestead exemption increases under the bill from $30,000 to $45,000. Current law provides for indexation of this threshold for inflation; the original $30,000 income limit had adjusted upward to $34,600 as of 2022.
If your income exceeds $30,000, then you will not qualify for the Homestead Exemption. The income test will be determined by Ohio adjusted gross income, as defined on the Ohio income tax return. Note that this amount does not include taxable social security benefits from the federal return.
