The City of Wilmington Earned Income Tax - commonly known as the City Wage Tax - is calculated at 1.25% of gross wages and must be collected by New Castle County and submitted to the City of Wilmington for all employees who either reside or work in the City.
In addition, the city of Wilmington collects its own individual income tax of 1.25 percent, the only jurisdiction to do so.
All residents of the City of Wilmington are subject to the Earned Income Tax. The tax is payable on all earned income (whether derived from wages or business income) regardless of where it is you may work, whether inside or outside the City.
If you make $2,000 or less in taxable income, you dont have to pay any state taxes. If you make between $2,000 and $5,000 the tax rate is 2.20%; up to $10,000, its 3.90%; up to $20,000, its 4.80%; up to $25,000, its 5.20%; up to $60,000, its 5.55%; and over $60,000, its 6.60%.
