A New Mexico Resident is an individual who is domiciled in New Mexico for the entire year or physically present in the state for 185 days or more (no matter where domiciled).
A person must physically reside in New Mexico for the twelve consecutive months immediately preceding the term for which the resident classification is requested. Only persons who are financially independent may establish residency apart from parents or guardians.
Most states require the student to have been a state resident and physically present for at least one year (12 consecutive months consisting of 365 days) prior to initial enrollment or registration.
Physical Presence: A student must be physically present in California ONE YEAR PRIOR to the Residence Determination Date (in which enrollment is contemplated). Intent: A student must intend to remain in California ONE YEAR PRIOR to the Residence Determination Date.
If you are an established New Mexico resident plan to enroll in at least 6 credit hours at a public college or university in NM toward a training certificate, associate degree, or bachelors degree, you may qualify.
