Involuntary inactive means the status of a current license resulting from the forfeiture, suspension, revocation, termination, or inactive status of a principal broker, broker-in-charge, branch office, or brokerage firm, as the case may be.
Textbook Expert-Verified. An inactive license allows the holder to refrain from practice while still being eligible for future practice by paying fees and possibly completing CE. In contrast, an expired license means the individual cannot practice legally and must meet specific qualifications to reinstate it.
When your license is in inactive status, you must still renew your license every two years but you are not required to complete continuing education courses. If you want to become active again, you will need to complete your CE courses and submit a request to TREC to activate your license.
Effective October 1, 2023, sales agents renewing their license for the first timeboth active and inactiveare required to complete an approved 30-hour Real Estate Brokerage course as part of their 90 hours of Sales Agent Apprentice Education (SAE). This change was adopted during the May Commission meeting.
