The IT-201 form serves as the primary income tax return for residents of New York State. It allows individuals to report their income, deductions, and credits available for the tax year. By filing this form, taxpayers ensure they meet their obligations under state tax laws.
If one of you was a New York State resident and the other was a nonresident or part-year resident, you must each file a separate New York return. The resident must use Form IT-201. The nonresident or part-year resident, if required to file a New York State return, must use Form IT-203.
This bill starts the collection process, which continues until your account is satisfied or until the IRS may no longer legally collect the tax. The first notice you receive will be a letter that explains the balance due and demands payment in full.
The state tax return will be included in the 2023 PDF download, shown directly below the federal tax return forms, schedules and worksheets. Start the 2024 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.
If taxpayers thought they were supposed to receive a tax refund but it is determined that they owe a certain unpaid debt, tax law allows a portion or all of their tax refund to be offset and paid toward their tax debt obligation, which is outlined by Tax Topic 203.
