A Texas boat registration is valid for two years. The following vessels/boats are required to have current registration when on Texas public water, including when docked, moored, or stored: All motorized vessels, regardless of length (including any sailboat with an auxiliary engine);

The seller must complete the tax affidavit portion of form PWD 143 and/or form PWD 144, sign and date each. If the boat or outboard motor is required to be titled, the seller must provide either the MSO, Texas title OR out--of-state title/registration (whichever is appropriate by that state).
Bill of Sale or Invoice Requirement Form PWD 143/144 application - sales price (not including trailer), date of sale, and trade-in information must be completed and signed by the seller. Forms PWD 143/144 can be downloaded from the Boat Forms webpage.
This form is used to request a Texas title and/or registration for a vessel/boat or to pay tax on vessels 115 feet and under. To title an outboard motor, please use Outboard Motor Application (PWD 144). Supporting documents, original signatures and payment for fees and taxes must accompany this form for processing.
