Contempt of court, or just contempt, refers to intentionally disobeying a court order. In Louisiana family law, contempt is used as a severe remedy in cases where one parent does not follow a court order related to issues such as child custody or child support.
Except as otherwise provided in this Article, a court may punish an adult person adjudged guilty of contempt of court in connection with a juvenile proceeding by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars or by imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
(d)(i) For any other contempt of court, including disobeying an order for the payment of child support or spousal support or an order for the right of custody or visitation, by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars, or imprisonment for not more than three months, or both.
4. Subject to sub-section(2), any person who commits contempt of court shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to six months simple imprisonment, or with fine which may extend to one hundred thousand rupees, or with both.
