The main advantage of shooting in RAW is that you end up with high-quality files to edit into the best possible image. Capturing and storing all the details that pass through your cameras sensors means RAW files contain a wider dynamic range and far greater color spectrum than JPEGs. What are the differences between JPEG and RAW? - docHub docHub file-types image comparison docHub file-types image comparison
Raw files are uncompressed, unprocessed shots, that capture all of the detail possible on the cameras sensor. They are known as lossless file formats, which means all of the data is recoverable when they are uncompressed. Each camera manufacturer has a different raw file format.
One of the largest benefits of RAW is the ability to recover shadows and highlights in post-processing without bringing in the grainy noise usually associated with high ISO settings. RAWs are very forgiving if you have severely underexposed or overexposed areas.
Exposure errors can be corrected with more accuracy than using a JPEG file. And along with making minor image corrections, RAW files can be adjusted to settings that arent adjustable in the camera. By. The biggest advantage to shooting raw is that the color of the images produced is unaltered so the highest image quality possible from the camera is maintained. The downside of working with raw files is that they take up more storage space than processed/compressed video.
Now, its important to note, its always better to correct perspective as early as you can in your workflow. So if youre working with RAW files, its better to select them in Bridge, and choose open in Camera Raw and use the geometry panel to correct the perspective.
What is a RAW file? A RAW file is lossless, meaning it captures uncompressed data from your camera sensor. Sometimes referred to as a digital negative, you can think of a RAW file as the raw ingredients of a photo that will need to be processed in order to bring out the pictures full potential.
