Perma-Chink Chinking applied over backer rod. Before you get started make sure the joint is clean and dry. Carefully tuck backer rod into the joint. Keep the chinking material tightly spaced to avoid air pocket. Apply to approximately three eighths of an inch thick. Dip the trowel in water when initially tooling the chinking. To ensure proper adhesion firmly press the chinking to the top and bottom of the joint. After smoothing to the proper thickness lightly wet the surface of the chinking and tool to finished smoothness. A spray bottle can be used to wet the surface but only after the chinking has been firmly pushed into the top and bottom of the joint. There are basically two types of finishes we recommend semitransparent and solid body stains. The type of finish chosen depends upon the log homes specific wood, the appearance the homeowner desires, and the level of maintenance that is acceptable to the homeowner.
Bondo All-Purpose Putty, in its 1.9 lb. 1-Quart form, clinches the title of the best wood filler for large holes and gaps. While testing various fillers, it outperformed the competition, leaving me impressed.
In this blog post, I will describe how we stain a log home or cabin to ensure a beautiful and long-lasting finish. Step 1: Clean the Logs and Other Wood Surfaces. Step 2: Apply a Product Called Revive Step 3: Apply the Stain. Step 4: Allow the Stain to Dry. Step 5: Apply a Second Coat (Water-Based Only)

Squeeze a liberal amount of Minwax Stainable Wood Filler into the area to be filled and press firmly into place, using a putty knife. Fill slightly above surface to allow for sanding while minimizing overspreading on surrounding areas.
Some sort of glue (Wood glue/Craft glue - it serves as the binding agent. Almost any type of glue works. I like to use some multipurpose glue, as its easier to clean than epoxy for example. Also, please use transparent or white glue, as coloured glues can stain the putty, and we dont want that).
