Anyone can search official land and property ownership records in Ontario using OnLand, your online source of information for the Ontario Land Registration System.
You can access Land Registry records related to the ownership of real property by accessing PLANET through a kiosk computer in a service centre or online through subscription (see next question on how to setup an account).
Most Canadian jurisdictions now use electronic land registration systems, all based on unique technological platforms (with the exception of Saskatchewan and Yukon, both of which use similar technological platforms).
In the Property Search, you can search a property using the PIN, street address, registration number of an Instrument registered on the property, or you can locate the property on a map (view sample). Then you can obtain information about the property, print and download a copy of a map, or order a Parcel Register.
Once registration of the transfer or deed is completed, a copy of the registered transfer deed will confirm ownership. A copy of the certificate of the title or parcel register can be obtained from the Land Titles office for land title parcels to confirm the registration and status of title.
Manual Title Search Obtain the propertys legal description (found on property tax statements) Go to the local Land Registry office, Recorders Office or Office of the Examiner of Titles with the legal description. Request public access to records and look up the legal description.
Instrument On the OnLand Homepage, from the Find your Land Registry Office options, begin typing the name of the city, town, or LRO name, or number youd like to search in. From the results in the list, scroll down and select your LRO . From the Find your land registry service options, select Property.
Upon request, copies of the deed, mortgages, transfers and liens can be obtained by conducting an Ontario Registered Document search. Upon request, any outstanding judgments on the registered owners as they appear on the Parcel Register can be obtained by ordering a Writ of Execution.
