Contract law regulates the agreements and exchanges between parties, while property law regulates the ownership and control of resources.
Property law governs ownership of both tangible and intangible objects. Tangible objects include property such as personal belongings, vehicles, buildings, and land. Intangible objects include investments, bank accounts, copyrights, and trademarks.
Definition. In the FBIs Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, property crime includes the offenses of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The object of the theft-type offenses is the taking of money or property, but there is no force or threat of force against the victims.
The law grants people a right of access to their homes, for example. So if the only access to a piece of land is by crossing through your property, the law recognizes an easement allowing access over your land.
In a legal context, the most common meaning of the term use, is the right to enjoy the benefits of real estate or personal property (but primarily used in reference to real estate), irrespective of whether the owner of the right owns the property. Therefore, in this context, use is equivalent to benefit.
