HB 2269 amends the Kansas Cigarette and Tobacco Products Act (Act) to raise the minimum age to 21 to sell, purchase, or possess cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, or tobacco products. The bill amends a statute concerning licensing to raise the minimum age to receive a license governed by the Act to age 21.
(c) (1) It is a class B person misdemeanor punishable by a minimum fine of $200 for any person to: (A) Sell, give or furnish any cigarettes or tobacco products to any person under 21 years of age; or (B) buy any cigarettes or tobacco products for any person under 21 years of age.
On July 1, Kansans between the ages of 18 and 21 will no longer be able to legally buy and smoke tobacco. Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly signed a bill Tuesday increasing the minimum age for tobacco consumption, sale and purchase in the state from 18 to 21.
