Once accepted into a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified school, international students will receive a Form I-20 from their designated school official (DSO).
The school official (called the Designated School Official or DSO) prints and signs the I-20 and then delivers it to the student. If a student needs to update or change information on the I-20, the DSO makes these requests through SEVIS and the document can be easily reproduced.
Federal regulations state that only a DSO at an SEVP-certified school may issue a Form I-20 to a prospective or continuing nonimmigrant student, or to an accompanying dependent. Third parties are not permitted to issue the Form I-20 to a student or to have the Form I-20 issued directly to them.
Student Acceptance at a SEVP Approved School The SEVP-approved school will issue you a Form I-20. After you receive the Form I-20 and register in SEVIS, you may apply at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate for a student (F or M) visa. You must present the Form I-20 to the consular officer when you attend your visa interview.
The $350 fee can be paid through the mail. Submit a completed Form I-901 and a check or money order drawn on a U.S. bank and payable in U.S. currency. The fee can also be paid through a sponsor.
