The Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation (Ojibwe: Waaseyaagmiing Anishinaabek) are an Ojibwa (or Anishinaabeg) people located on Georgina Island in Lake Simcoe, Ontario, Canada. In 2008, of the First Nation's registered population of 666 people, 181 lived on, and 485 lived outside, their reserve.
We encourage visitors to walk on the ferryboat and sit in the passenger section. You will be able to enjoy the beautiful view, and avoid waiting in a potential lineup with your vehicle. Hikers may use Nanabush Trails, located at the end of Hello Road.
There are 260 leased properties with cottages on Snake Island, 120 leased properties with cottages on Georgina Island and 60 leased properties with cottages on Fox Island.
The Chief of this First Nation is Donna Bigcanoe. The Economic Development Officer of this First Nation is Marlene Stiles.
In addition to being able to issue leases, Georgina Island now deals directly with cottagers, too: the First Nation collects rent, sends arrears notices and can cancel a lease if the leaseholder doesn't follow the rules.
