In Connecticut, grass carp typically occur only in small ponds where they have been stocked under special permit. Escapees may be encountered elsewhere. The only large public lake currently being stocked with grass carp is Ball Pond (New Fairfield).
Your approach is successful if all vegetation is removed. Eventually, more fish will need to be stocked if plant growth returns to undesirable levels. Restock triploid grass carp at 3 fish per acre to maintain control, and 5 fish per acre to keep the pond or lake devoid of vegetation.
Grass carp are a non-chemical alternative for aquatic control. Aquatic plants are beneficial to pond and lake ecosystems, but they can easily overpopulate and become a nuisance for the landowner.
