VETERAN ELIGIBILITY A bona fide and legal resident of Texas on the date of application and meet one of the following service criteria: An active duty Military Member. A member of the Texas National Guard. A reserve component Military Member having completed 20 qualifying years for retirement.
Veterans who are rated 100% due to service connected disability or in receipt of 100% compensation due to a grant of individual unemployability are entitled to an exemption from taxation of the total appraised value of the Veterans residence homestead.
When a military member with Texas as their home state of record purchases a motor vehicle in Texas, the 6.25 percent motor vehicle sales tax is due. When sold by a dealer in Texas, the motor vehicle sales tax is calculated on the retail sales price, less trade-in allowance.
